Armenian philosophical academy

International Conference titled "Life and Philosophy," dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Academician Georg Brutian.

On November 22–23, 2016, the Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted the international conference titled "Life and Philosophy," dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician Georg Brutian.

The event was organized by the Department of Philosophy and Logic at the Armenian State Pedagogical University in collaboration with the Armenian Philosophical Academy.

The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Mkrtchyan, and the President of the National Academy of Sciences of RA, Radik Martirosyan.

Among the international participants were esteemed philosophers with significant contributions to the history of global philosophical thought and international standing, including:

  • Hans KÖCHLER – Professor of Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck (Austria), President of the International Progress Organization, and Co-President of the International Academy for Philosophy.

  • Georgia APOSTOLOPOULOU – Professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Ioannina (Greece), and Member of the International Academy for Philosophy.

  • Armen T. MARSOOPIAN – Chair of the Philosophy Department at Southern Connecticut State University (USA) and Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious journal Metaphilosophy.

  • Balázs MEZEI – Head of the Department of Philosophy and Director of International Research at Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Hungary), Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, and Professor.

  • Ana BAZAC – Professor of Philosophy at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (Romania) and Vice-President of the Division of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science of the Romanian Academy’s Committee for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology.

  • Alexander ALEKSEEV – Head of the Chair of Philosophy for Social Science Faculties at the Faculty of Philosophy, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, and Professor.


Within the framework of the conference, two significant commemorative events took place: Official Naming Ceremony: The Department of Philosophy and Logic at the Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University was officially renamed the "Academician Georg Brutian Department of Philosophy and Logic." Exhibition: A special exhibition was held featuring the awards and honors received by Georg Brutian throughout his career, reflecting his vast scientific legacy and the global recognition of his contributions to the field.




 

Conference Tracks and Sessions


The conference featured five parallel sessions covering diverse areas of philosophical and social inquiry:

  1. Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness, and Philosophy
  2. Metaphilosophy and the History of Armenian Philosophical Thought
  3. Fundamental Issues in Epistemology, Logic, Methodology, Argumentation Theory, and Rhetoric
  4. Contemporary Problems in Psychology and Sociology
  5. The Young Scientist's Forum (Junior Researchers' Chair)

Open lectures

Selected papers from the conference were published as scientific articles in the "WISDOM" journal—an international periodical indexed in several major scientific databases and included in the Supreme Certifying Committee of the Republic of Armenia (SCC) list of acceptable publications for the defense of doctoral theses.

Peer Review Process: During the conference, the live discussion and defense of the reports were formally recognized as a substitute for the preliminary peer-review phase required for publication.
